From May 2nd to the 11th, Galerie Beauchamp in Quebec City presents “The Soul of the Forest,” a solo exhibition by Josée Forest that invites the visitor to slow down and reconnect with nature, a stroll through the heart of the artist’s values.
An invitation to slow down and reconnect with nature
Faithful to her unique view of nature, the artist presents a new series of unique animal portraits where majestic animals such as bison, deer, moose, horses and highland cows rub shoulders with her famous felines. Each painting is an intimate exploration of human emotions through the raw and quiet beauty of animals in themes such as family, coming together, and the need to slow down and connect to our roots. These fundamental values are at the heart of Josée Forest’s exhibition, which aims to offer the public an experience that is intended to be comforting.
Evolving colors and emotions
Josée Forest is making a distinct evolution in her color palette. After more than 16 years in galleries and a well-established international career, Josée Forest's art has become known for the use of bold and luminous colors. For this return to the earth, Josée Forest enriches her palette with more natural and muted shades, such as steel blue, taupe pink, pewter and rust. This evolution testifies to her artistic maturity and his commitment to reflecting authentic emotions while respecting nature.
Each work is the result of careful research: Josée Forest now creates her own colors to obtain unique shades, capable of transmitting the warmth and softness that characterize her animals. In a constant attempt to highlight the animal, the artist explores backgrounds with enveloping colors. Raw materials like wood, textured fabrics, linen, wool, and the natural, warm and soothing colors of the earth are elements which the artist transposes into her works and convey her need to return to her roots.
"I want to offer a peaceful place, where we can relax and enjoy each moment with the serenity and quiet strength of the animal."
