VIP for "From one crown to another" by Agnès Robin

Agnès Robin will be on hand to share her artistic approach and discuss her work at the VIP evening on May 2nd from 5pm to 8pm.

Deeply moved by Basquiat's retrospective in Montreal, Agnès Robin offers us a contemporary point of view with her exhibition, ‘From one crown to another’. The exhibition will run from May 1st to May 12th, 2024, in our Montreal gallery located at 51 rue St-Paul Ouest.

In her new collection, the artist revisits some of Basquiat's key themes and symbols, transposing them with her own artistic approach. Like the street-art master, she pushes her own creative boundaries by exploring innovative avenues.

This exhibition is not just a celebration of creativity, it's a statement of commitment. Like Basquiat, Agnès Robin tackles crucial issues such as feminism and violence against women. The artist offers her personal vision, highlighting the courage of women and their role in society. This body of work is intimate, inclusive and empathetic, and an invitation for all art lovers to reflect deeply.

Discover a collection of thirty paintings inspired by Basquiat's artistic approach, featuring his well-known motifs such as crowns, hand-done lettering and collage. The exhibition will also feature twelve black-and-white portraits of women, created in the style of Polaroid photos. Each will be retouched with a ballpoint pen, evoking Basquiat's famous technique. You'll also discover familiar faces such as Basquiat himself, Madonna and Debbie Harry, as well as beautiful strangers.
