Lemieux, Nicole
Technique: Ceramic

Nicole Lemieux has been working in sculpture for more than thirty years. A training in ceramics at the Julien Ceramics Workshop during the 1970s was decisive in her choice of sculpture. A Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts at Laval University in 1987 and a second Bachelor’s in Art History in 1991 from the same university supported this orientation. Today, she teaches ceramics part-time in various Quebec centers dedicated to this medium.
Terracotta combined with diverse materials such as steel, copper, wood, acrylic, etc., characterizes her three-dimensional compositions. Ovoid forms, hands, architecture, and anthropomorphic elements have been favored. Ecology, solitude, and hardworking hands have been the main themes explored. Currently, her artistic research is oriented towards genetics.
Nine solo exhibitions and about sixty group exhibitions have marked an active artistic practice. In 1990 and 1994, two ceramic sculptures were finalists in Canada and presented in traveling exhibitions. In the year 2000, a one-meter sculpture was selected by the Royal Academy of Arts of Canada for an exhibition in Toronto and Stratford. In 2017, a work received the silver medal in France.
