Houde, Louise
1946–2016
Louise Houde was born in Québec in 1946. In 1961–1962, she traveled to Scotland and then to France to study painting. Returning to Québec in 1963, she enrolled at the École des beaux-arts de Québec and studied with the painter Albert Rousseau. To further perfect her art, she went to Japan in 1972 and to France in 1975.
Louise Houde is known for her still lifes and semi-abstract landscapes. Her paintings are distinguished by the use of a pronounced black line that either encircles the forms or defines the space, depending on the work.
