Lee, Mata

Bachelor of Graphic Design.

Graphic artist and designer Luc Perreault's career has been shaped by two areas of expertise: the arts and communication.

This professional artist, whose canvases are exhibited internationally, works in both digital and visual arts.

The past few years have been marked by pictorial research across various media and the publication of a collection entitled "Regards" (Glimpses), which summarizes his vision of portraiture.

He has also held the positions of art director, creative director, and vice-president. This has allowed him to guide graphic designers through the crucial early stages of their careers; "my primary goal was to help them transcend technique, push the boundaries of creativity, and surpass established standards."

Luc Perreault currently lives and works in Joliette, Quebec, Canada.

Artistic Approach

The Mata Lee Art collection, by Lanaudière-based artist-designer Luc Perreault, is based on a process of deconstruction and recombination.
Each portrait is constructed like a puzzle of human elements, assembled into a coherent yet subtly dissonant figure.

This deliberate fragmentation references generative algorithms that aggregate countless sources to create an image that doesn't exist in reality.

My choice to use widely spaced eyes, a minimalist face, and unsettling proportions creates a slight visual unease. It's a hint that something has been altered, recomposed, reinvented. This unease isn't a trap: it's an invitation to look more closely, to question what seems familiar, to recognize that this face isn't "real" but that it nonetheless expresses an emotional truth. Technically, my works blend manga influences, refined surrealism, and a sense of contemporary stylization. I work with flat colors, subtle textures and smoothed forms to reinforce the synthetic, almost digital, character of my characters. Even though they are hand-painted, they retain an algorithmic intention, as if they had been generated as much as they were painted.
