Interview by Vincent Beauchamp
Vincent: Rémi, the title of your exhibition is A Character, an Object, a Story. Where did that idea come from?
Rémi Bergeron: That title sums up my entire creative process. Each sculpture begins with an object that catches my attention. Then I search for the posture, the attitude, the gesture. Little by little, a character takes shape, and a story begins to form around them.
Vincent: Your studio is filled with objects organized by shape. How do you choose which ones to use?
Rémi Bergeron: I’m drawn to objects that have lived — that carry a memory. By assembling them, I give them a second life. Collectors often tell me that a certain object reminds them of their childhood or a cherished moment. That connection is what touches me the most.
Vincent: There are some surprising characters in this exhibition — a clown named Miro, a mama bear, Victorian twins… even a bird made from your 1960s hand mixer!
Rémi Bergeron: (smiles) Yes! I love to surprise and delight. Creating a bird from an electric mixer is my way of saying: anything can become art.
Vincent: What do you hope visitors experience when they come to the gallery?
Rémi Bergeron: I hope they feel like they’re meeting real beings. My sculptures aren’t just objects; they invite connection.
Vincent: You’ll be present at the opening and during two weekends. What can visitors expect?
Rémi Bergeron: Warm conversations! I love sharing the stories behind each sculpture and seeing people smile or be surprised. For me, that human connection is the best part of the job.
