This week, a family friend, the painter André Latulippe, passed away. It is important to know that even before the gallery existed, André was there. In fact, every time he saw my father at the cottage, he would bring up the same idea: “You need to open your gallery, and I want to be part of it.” That friendly persistence, that unshakable faith, is what started it all. André was not just our first artist. He was the reason everything began.
Nearly thirty-three years later, André was still with us. In recent years his health was severely tested but never, ever did he lose his smile, his sharp sense of humor, or his love of wordplay. André had that rare elegance of making the person he was speaking with feel like the most important person in the world.
As soon as I heard the news, I immediately called his wife, Madeleine. While I phoned to offer my condolences and support, Madeleine sought to reassure me by saying that André had the chance to see his entire family before leaving them, before leaving us. Elegant until his final breath, he made sure to tell them how much he loved them.
Thank you, André, for that initial intuition and for your friendly insistence in convincing my father to open the gallery.
Thank you for maintaining your unwavering faith in us all these years, for allowing us to represent you, but above all, for allowing us to create unforgettable memories by your side.
Warmly,
Vincent Beauchamp
