With back-to-school season approaching, I’ve been reminded of the resolutions made at the beginning of the year and the fact that December 31st is quickly upon us. It’s no longer the stress of starting another school year that occupies my thoughts, but the realization that it's the final stretch to achieve MY 2024 resolution. This year, my top priority was to carve out some time to finally read at least half of the books I bought over the past year.

Even though the first eight months haven't been a success in reaching my goal, I'm not giving up! I think I've found a solution. Two years ago, we were fortunate enough to move into a fantastic new home, but oddly enough, I hadn’t found the perfect spot to unwind and read without too many distractions (not easy for someone like me with ADHD). I finally realized that the ideal space had been there all along—my small workout room, where I do stretches, physio exercises, and indoor cycling. It’s not a very big room and is quite cluttered.

I decided to make a few adjustments to transform this space into a cool corner by my standards—nothing complicated, extravagant, or expensive, just a small, relaxing, and quiet nook where I can take 15 minutes each day to read, learn, and let new ideas flourish (and maybe finally quit Netflix!).

This might not be a big deal for most of you, but for me, it’s helped set up what I need to improve my quality of life. Now, I just need to discipline myself to use my “corner” every day.

Here’s my top list of items to consider if the words "quality of life" resonate with you:

  • Utility Cart: Keep all your favorite items well organized and roll them out of sight when you’re done. See here.
  • Comfortable Chair: A small, comfy chair that’s easy to move when needed. See here.
  • The Perfect Lamp: Chic, adjustable, and stylish lighting to set the mood. See here.
  • Side Table with Hidden Storage: Ideal for small spaces or multifunctional rooms. See here.
  • An Ultra-Soft Throw: An incredibly soft blanket for adults. See here.
  • A Shelf for Your Art Pieces: Display your sculptures and other favorite small objects to surround yourself with what makes you smile and feel lighter. See here.
